Pakistan, China Reaffirm ‘Ironclad’ Strategic Partnership During Army Chief’s Beijing Visit

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have reinforced their unwavering strategic partnership during Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir’s high-profile meetings with Chinese political and military leaders in Beijing on Friday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the visit highlighted the strengthening political and military ties between the two nations, emphasizing their joint commitment to regional peace and stability.

 

Strengthening Diplomatic & Economic Ties

 

During discussions with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, key topics included:

  • The evolving global and regional political scenario
  • Progress on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)
  • Coordinated strategies to address shared geopolitical challenges

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the depth of bilateral cooperation, reaffirming their dedication to sovereign equality, multilateral engagement, and long-term stability in the region. The Chinese leadership praised the Pakistan Armed Forces as a “pillar of resilience” and a “key force for peace in South Asia.”

 

Enhancing Defense Collaboration

 

General Munir also held meetings with senior Chinese military officials, including:

  • General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC)
  • General Chen Hui, Political Commissar of the PLA Army
  • Lieutenant General Cai Zhai Jun, Chief of Staff of the PLA Army

The discussions focused on:

  • Strengthening defense and security cooperation
  • Counterterrorism efforts and joint military exercises
  • Modernization of defense capabilities
  • Improving operational coordination to counter hybrid and transnational threats

The COAS was honored with a guard of honor at the PLA Army Headquarters, reflecting the deep-rooted camaraderie between the two militaries. Chinese military leaders expressed confidence in the enduring defense partnership and acknowledged Pakistan’s critical role in regional stability.

 

Commitment to a Shared Future

 

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng described the two nations as “unshakable friends and all-weather strategic partners,” highlighting their mutual trust and solidarity. He emphasized China’s willingness to deepen cooperation and build a “closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future.”

General Munir reiterated that fostering strong ties with China is a national consensus in Pakistan. He affirmed Pakistan’s support for China’s global initiatives and the military’s commitment to further strengthening the all-weather strategic partnership.

The visit underscores the continued alignment between Pakistan and China on diplomatic, economic, and security fronts, reinforcing their collaborative vision for regional prosperity and stability.
